Shannon Frizzell is a classically trained guitarist with a Masters of Music Degree from the University of Calgary. He began playing the electric guitar in middle school and by high school was playing in various rock and heavy metal bands. It was an audition for the Red Deer College (RDC) Music Program that helped facilitate an introduction to the classical guitar. That introduction expanded the boundaries of the art form for Shannon and led to a lifelong dedication to classical composition and performance.

Shannon has been a guitar teacher for 36 years. He taught lessons at a number of music stores before joining the faculty of the RDC Music Conservatory in 2000. His students have gone on to complete graduate programs and develop professional careers in music that range from academic to international performance. His younger students have competed and won medals in the Royal Conservatory and Provincial Music Festivals.

While teaching, Shannon has maintained a rigorous practice of private and public performances. He has played recitals regularly at the RDC Concert Series as well as engaging with his roots by playing with punk band Sven and the Sheepherders and producing recordings for the Ugly Bastards Brigade and EDM artist Spazmoticus. He has written music for short films, most recently StopMo Jam and StopMo Jam 2.

In the summer of 2018 he opened his own guitar studio in downtown Red Deer. He has worked with students of all ages and abilities for decades and he can help you find your voice on the guitar.
